The Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality, Councillor Pule Shayi has once again called on residents of Mopani to be extra vigilant in the fight against the spread of Covid-19 – this as the district records its first Covid-19 death.
The latest stats released by the Department of Health today reports one death in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality. The Executive Mayor sends his condolences to the bereaved family. “On behalf of the leadership collective, we wish to send our deepest condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time. We also wish a speedy recovery to all those infected.”
Shayi says that the fight against Covid-19 needs a collective effort from everyone. “Despite all the efforts from government around economic relief packages, the rise in the number of Covid-19 cases will once against disrupt the economy, which will lead to more job losses. We take this opportunity to appeal to the people of our district to be extra vigilant as we continue the fight against the spread of Covid-19. We need not to lose another life to realize the seriousness of this war in front of us.”
“Let us continue to practice good hygiene as we forge ahead with the push back strategy against Covid-19. We must continue to wear our masks. We continue to regularly wash our hands for 20 seconds or sanitize. And we continue to maintain a safe social distance. We need to avoid unnecessary movements; hosting of parties, soccer tournaments and drinking alcohol in groups,” he said.
