A security company called Noordvaal security Sekerheid with headquarters in Centurion, Pretoria has been exploiting all their black security guards and underpaying them for years now. And this led to a strike by the guards. The strike started today.
According to our sources, all black security guards at this company are underpaid, some get as little as R1000 per month. And we are talking about people that work 7 days a week, some of them have to endure cold nights during this winter as they work night shifts.
Ever since lockdown started, these employees have been going to work everyday, being exploited everyday. This workers have been putting their health and the health of their loved ones at risk by going to work everyday during this COViD19 pandemic, but still Noordvaal security company pays them peanuts.
To justify this atrocity, Noordvaal states on every Black employee's payslip that they are on a learnership. It is normal for most learnerships to pay little as R1000. But the problem with Noordvaal is that these employees did not apply for learnership positions as most of them are already qualified security personnel with the appropriate qualifications and papers at hand to prove this and therefore deserve a full salary pay.
And another thing is while most learnerships only last for about two years, there are security guards at Noordvaal security who have been working there for as long as 7 years with no salary increase and their payslip still say "learnership."
This learnership title on their Payslips has made lives difficult for these men and women working for Noordvaal because they can't even quality for credit in stores and banks because apparently they are "learners".
This corruption and exploitation of black employees at the company has led to a strike because the people are fed up. After initiating a strike, all security guards of the company received the following message:
"PLEASE BE INFORMED THAT: The company has been made aware that there are employees who are intending to go on a stay-away” / “work-stoppage” / “go-slow” / or “tools-down strike, please be advised that Any employee currently planning on participating in a “stay-away” / “work-stoppage” / “go-slow” / or “tools-down” which causes any type of disruption to the Company and/or the Client of the Company is deemed to be partaking in an unlawful/unprotected strike action which is contrary to the LRA. The policy of NO WORK NO PAY APPLIES and you have not followed lawful procedures. Disciplinary action will follow for any employee who continues to refuse reporting for your shifts as per your employment contract. Employees are warned that they have 24 hours to contact human resources by replying to this SMS to confirm that you will be reporting at your posts as per your duty roster. As per your disciplinary code insubordination is a dismissible offence and this matter will be treated as such. QUOTE YOUR EMPLOYEE NUMBER WHEN YOU REPLY THIS SMS. Failure to respond will lead to harsh disciplinary action. Regards, Management of NOORDVAAL and IBS. For assistance/queries call 0125430720."
These employees are pleading with the general public for anyone who can help them get Justice to please come forward. Most of them have been exploited for so long because they are not educated and therefore didn't know better and do not even know who to report these atrocities to.
